And Behind Door Number 3 It’s…Brandon Jennings!

by Colin R. on Jun.26, 2009, under NBA

As of Thursday morning Brandon Jennings was planning on attending the 2009 NBA draft at Madison Square Garden. Yesterday afternoon I was watching ‘Pardon The Interruption’ and guest Jay Bilas suggested that there could be a possible ‘Brady Quinn’ situation where Jennings was still waiting well into the teens to hear his name called, while the ESPN cameras focused in, hoping to capture all the anguish.

Apparently, Jennings’ agent Bill Duffy told him the same thing, because he announced before the draft that despite being in Manhattan, he would not show up at the Garden. Well, turns out Jay Bilas was wrong (Yeah that’s a shock…come on, he went to Duke).  Jennings was selected at number 10, well within the lottery picks, by the Milwaukee Bucks.

Then, in a twist, Jennings or Duffy called over and let ESPN know that Jennings would show up after all. Soon after the pick the ESPN analyst crew announced that Jennings was on his way, you know, now that he knew he wasn’t going to look foolish……..

So after Earl Clark of Louisville was selected at 14, Commissioner David Stern announced that Clark was not in attendence. Then he really awkwardly stated that Jennings had shown up, and people should cheer. Jennings then shook Stern’s hand and had his picture taken, just like all the players that actually showed up and stuck their necks out a tiny bit.

Good job Brandon Jennings, embarrassment avoided.
